Did the Catholic Church Create Suffering in Haiti?
By Mr. Gene Green

Posting things like this is not fun. It is my opinion on the subject. I grew up in the Church and raised my family in the Church. Over the last few years, my thoughts have shifted on the subject of the Catholic Church. Whenever something excludes others and creates division, I question it. Religion is supposed to be to offer peace and hope and in the Haiti situation, I think it devastated many people.

Does the Church help a lot of people? Yes! Absolutely. Of course, they are missionaries and they are winning people over to their Religion. With that said, did you know that over 50% of Haiti is under the age of 18? Woah Pardner! That is a lot of kids. Why is that?

In comes the picture of the Catholic Church and the teaching to allow God to plan your family. No birth control, just trust in God to plan your family. After all, big families are a blessing. This is true, I have five children myself and would not give any of them up…however, I am not going to say it is always easy, financially, emotionally and spiritually. And, I have a decent job and live in a nice cozy house. I don’t have to dig for my dinner and I don’t have to carry buckets with water to cook and clean. My kids go to schools with air conditioning. So, for me to think of the struggles I have and then begin to imagine what the people in Haiti are going through…well, it seems like the Catholic Church has done these people a disservice.
